BCX Post Covid Priorities for Information Technology In Retail
7 Jul, 2021
Building a foundation for an omnichannel future
COVID-19 has brought further pain to a South African retail sector that was already challenged by slow economic growth, low consumer confidence and growing global competition. From disrupting value chains to halting trade in non-essential products for several months in 2020 to straining logistics and technology infrastructures, the novel coronavirus has left a deep impact on retailers.
In the wake of the national lockdown in March 2020, most retailers moved with remarkable speed and flexibility to reorient their operations for the new world—whether that meant working with supply chain partners to meet surging
demand for cleaning chemicals and personal protection equipment, ramping up home
deliveries or equipping head-office staff to work from home.
