Introduction to International Roaming

International Roaming is a simple and reliable service that allows you to make full use your mobile phone when travelling outside of South Africa.

What is International Roaming?

International Roaming is a convenient service which allows you to make and receive calls, send and receive emails, send text messages and browse the internet while in countries outside South Africa.

We are able to offer this service as we have teamed up with a variety of Preferred Partners in various international destinations. This means your phone will automatically connect to one of these partners once you have arrived at your destination, giving you instant access to the network. For this to work, you will need to set your handset to ‘automatically select a network’. Please see below for a full list of countries and preferred partners.

Before travelling, you will need to apply for International Roaming to activate the service. Simply download and complete an application form (found under the Technical Details section), save it as a PDF, print and sign the form and then fax or email it to us

How to sign up for International Roaming:

  1. Download the forms here:

  2. Complete the application form, press “Save to PDF” and print it the form
  3. Sign the printed form
  4. Fax it to 088 012 311 3872 or email it to tm-cbo-inter@telkommobile.co.za

Note: You might be requested to pay a deposit. If you have a cell phone administrator, please send your request to them.

Using our preferred partners:

If you are travelling to a destination where we have a preferred partner in operation, all you need to do when you arrive at your destination is switch your cell phone on and allow it to choose the partner automatically. Your cell phone will need to be set to “automatically select a network” for this to work. If the device is set on manual, please change the setting. This will work only in those countries in which we have preferred partner agreements. Please see the below table for more information.

If you experience roaming issues while abroad, please email us directly on roamingsupport@telkom.co.za. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Your name and the problem being experienced;
  • The MSISDN code activated for international roaming;
  • Which country you are in and the date on which you plan to leave;
  • An alternative contact number – e-mail or phone.
